What Is Data Conversion in Electronic Test Tools?

oscilloscopesDifferent electronic tools have different output signals and to get a mutual understanding of what it all means, I present data conversion. Data conversion is the process of converting data from one format to another.

Having a good data conversion tool is essential, since problems can arise such as file corruption, incorrect data, and portions of deleted data.

Data Conversion Electronic Test Tool Examples

Data conversion comes from many different tools along with different data conversion forms. Here are some examples of data conversion.

Data Converters

Data converters are the piece of hardware that does the actual data conversion, by reading and altering the data from the original format to the new one.

Analog to Digital Converters (ADC)

An analog to digital converter changes data from physical data into digital data. Waveforms are a form of analog data, a form of digital data is binary code.

Digital to Analog Converters (DAC)

Digital to analog converters change digital data into analog data. An example of digital data conversion to analog is a modem, as it converts digital data to audio frequency so it can transmit over phone lines.

Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer (DDFS)

Track and Hold (T/H)

Track and hold is a type of circuit that is important in data conversion. The track and hold circuit contains a tracking switch and holding capacitor.

Differential Probes

Differential probes measure frequency signals and they have a single-ended input, so they need a differential amplifier to convert the frequency into an understandable form.
